Plant Science Building Renovation - Project

Project description

DM Engineers is providing fire protection and fire alarm design services for Phase 2 of the comprehensive renovation of Cornell University’s Plant Science Building, a key facility within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. This phase focuses on connecting to and expanding upon the new infrastructure installed under Phase 1, as part of a broader modernization effort to transform the five-story historic building into a state-of-the-art research and educational facility.

Our team is engaged from the Design Manual phase, developing code-compliant fire protection and fire alarm systems that integrate seamlessly with the upgraded MEP infrastructure. The renovation includes a complete interior overhaul with new layouts, walls, and mechanical systems, alongside exterior restoration efforts such as façade repair, energy-efficient window replacement, and sustainability enhancements.

The updated facility will feature modern laboratories, classrooms, and support spaces tailored to advance Cornell’s leadership in plant science research. The overall project is funded by the State University Construction Fund, with Phase 2 expected to be completed by June 2026.
