Boiler House Generator & East wing EPPS Replacement
Upstate University Hospital

Project description
DM Engineers PLLC is providing mechanical engineering design services for the replacement and upgrade of critical emergency power infrastructure at SUNY Upstate Medical University’s University Hospital. The project replaces end-of-life and non-code-compliant systems serving essential hospital operations, including the Emergency Department, Operating Rooms, Intensive Care Unit, and Administration Offices. Work involves the phased removal of two 1,250 kW generators and installation of new 1,500 kW units, along with upgrades to day tanks, duplex fuel oil pumps, air louvers, generator controls, and four ATSs in the boiler plant. Additional improvements include new parallel switchgear, generator exhaust upgrades, building modifications for equipment installation, and temporary power provisions.
DM Engineers’ scope includes designing new fuel oil piping connections, replacing the 450-gallon day tank and duplex fuel oil pumps, implementing heating and ventilation upgrades, redesigning intake and exhaust systems, and replacing the generator room exhaust fan. The team assesses exhaust flue reuse, integrates generator controls with the Siemens BMS, and ensures compliance with NYS Building and Mechanical Codes and SUNY directives. Construction administration services include site observations, contractor coordination, and review of submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings through AHJ final sign-off.
