Project description

DM Engineers is providing comprehensive commissioning services for Phase 2 of the Student Classroom Renovation project at Tower II, located at 50 Haven Avenue, New York, NY, as part of ongoing facility upgrades at Columbia University. This phase focuses on modernizing the learning environment through the integration of advanced mechanical systems designed to improve energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and long-term operational performance.

The scope of work includes the installation of Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) split systems, a high-efficiency heat recovery unit, upgrades to the existing perimeter heating infrastructure, and the implementation of new Direct Digital Controls (DDC). These systems are being installed to replace outdated equipment and support the university’s goals for sustainability and smart building management.

DM Engineers serves as the owner’s technical representative, delivering third-party commissioning services to ensure that all mechanical systems are installed correctly, perform according to the design specifications, and meet the functional requirements of the renovated space. Our team is conducting rigorous testing, verification, and documentation processes throughout construction to support a smooth turnover and optimized performance.

By validating system functionality and integration, we help ensure that the classrooms operate reliably, efficiently, and in alignment with the intended design. Construction is currently underway, with final completion and commissioning activities expected to conclude by the end of August.
